Journalism Projects

Audio: Ricky Horton KBIA/NPR Feature Story

During my freshman year of college, I did an audio piece/interview with MLB broadcaster and former player Ricky Horton. It aired on the mid-Missouri radio station KBIA and is on the NPR website.

The technical parts of this project taught me audio cuts and flow. I picked up background noise reduction techniques and utilized a recording studio and its technologies. During the interviewing process, I did extensive background research. This made the interview go smoothly and gave me 30 minutes of good content to use for my piece.

Because of the success of the interview and the piece itself, I got the chance to make my school project a published audio piece on NPR. I experienced the process of getting permissions for audio clips from the MLB. I sent back and forth emails between three different people and even met with an MLB attorney on zoom, who taught me about the legal aspects of journalism. Click the picture to listen to this story.

Collegetown

At the end of my Sophomore year at Mizzou I wrote two articles for the Missourian's summer issue "Collegetown." This issue is sent out to incoming freshmen and transfer students of the university, and it details life at Mizzou. I conducted interviews for and wrote articles on study spots and student success in the classroom.

Profile Piece

This is a profile piece I wrote on an impactful teacher. I thoroughly enjoy highlighting interesting and inspiring people, so this writing and interviewing process was incredibly fulfilling.
